AZBHOS Culture

OUR COMMITMENT TO EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

AZBHOS stands against injustice and racism and believes that the lives of our members we serve matter. We believe that AZBHOS can have the greatest impact on the communities we serve when our team, volunteers and clinicians actively and intentionally engage in healthy conversations about our therapeutic programming, systemic racism and inequality, and commit to actions and policies that dismantle prejudicial practices and unethical systems.

Our commitment is to ensure equity and quality is embedded in our work produced across the organization, and to uplift and invest in the lives of our members and ensure they have access to enriching modalities and restorative development programs. AZBHOS embarked on a journey in 2022, laying the groundwork on identifying organizational values, initiating changes and positive communication internally and externally around racial, gender and social justice.

Therapeutic programming

We are committed to building on this work and taking actions to demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and ultimately to the changes required to maintaining an anti-racist organization. We recognize it is a journey. We will learn, grow, and may make mistakes along the way. We will serve as a positive agent of change for our youth, support quality therapeutic programming, bridge the opportunity difference, and address the racial gaps in the economy and education that present too many challenges to the members we serve. We know we can do more, need to do more, and will do more to support and demonstrate our commitment to our youth, their futures and to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Our diverse group and individual therapy discussions that spark healthy therapeutic changes in our quality of care and atmosphere:

OUR COMMITMENT TO WOMEN & GIRLS EMPOWERMENT

AZBHOS Girls’ Empowerment groups are educational programs that help girls identify and strengthen their voice — both individually and collectively. In our program, girls learn about self-esteem, positive decision-making, nutrition, physical and emotional health, menstrual hygiene, gender-based violence, and harmful beliefs and practices. This education helps them plan for their futures. Our Hottentot Elite Adolescent Girls Group was designed to help girls become all they are meant to be, to believe in themselves, to feel good about the unique person she is, and to help them discover their own special gifts. Group’s goals are to increase the participant's ability to make safe and healthy choices, increase self confidence and self-esteem, and increase appropriate interpersonal interaction.

ENCOURANGING DAILY GROUPS AND INDIVIDUAL THERAPY SESSIONS:

Build interpersonal skills · Set meaningful goals for the future · Develop a positive sense of self · Enhance social connections · Learn tools for managing emotions · Learn coping skills for managing stress · Develop skills for building confidence Self-worth and happiness will be key components of each group. Through motivational interviewing, activities, games, direct instruction, and conversation, as girls are encouraged to process how to develop into their whole selves. Women are key factors for sustainability and development as they stand at the center of critical issues concerning communities and environment as a whole. Thus, empowering women has a snowball effect on families, communities, economies, and environment. As we are the givers of life, love and legacy.
